The censorship doesn't have a determined end date as of now, and it doesn't seem like the sides will reconcile anytime soon. Lots of Moroccans are upset because calling through these apps are the easiest and cheapest way to talk to family members abroad, not to mention that there are plenty of illiterate people who prefer to call than text. A famous figure in technology is trying to get the public to not use any telecommunications this weekend (Jan 16th-17th) so that they'll restore full functionality to the apps.
Skype is a huge loss for me - not only do I use it to communicate with family and friends in the States, I also have a speaking partner and pronunciation teacher in Egypt! I may not be able to participate in protests to support the student teachers, but I can join the boycott to spur the government to bring about the end of the censorship and meet the student teachers' demands. Here's hoping for a peaceful resolution that benefits all citizens.
