I've been home for a month and a half now, and it's honestly surreal - not only because it's the longest period of time that I've been home for in over a year, but also because I spent the last two summers in Morocco so it's weird actually being in the States to celebrate July 4th and suffer through DC-area humidity.
I honestly think about Morocco every day; it has truly become my home away from home. It's been so nice to catch up with friends and family here as well as start my new job, but I feel homesick when I look at the adventures some of my friends from Maryland or from the summer program I did back in 2014 are currently having on their capstone year.
I definitely imagine myself returning someday - at the very least to visit my friends in Meknes, maybe for more studying or work.
For now, though, I'm focused on the future. My job right now ended up being only part time for a few months so I'm searching/applying for other positions every chance I get. I'll be visiting Stephen at the end of August for our five year anniversary (!!!) and the plan is for me to move out to the Bay Area by August of next year. I bought a car and I'm learning how to deal with paying bills and managing my finances.
I'm happy, but a part of me will always miss Morocco.
To my friends from the past year - American, Moroccan, and Egyptian alike - I love you, I miss you, and I can't wait to see you again. Thank you for challenging me and laughing with me even through the tough times.
كنبغيكم, توحشتكم, ومانقدرش نستني باش نشوفكم عود تاني. شكرا لكل التحديات والضحك حتى في الأوقات الصعيبة
To my friends there now - have the best time, keep your head up, and take advantage of every opportunity to learn that you can. I'm honestly jealous that I'm not still there.
To my other friends still in school - if you get the chance, travel and take the time to learn about another language and culture. You won't regret it.
This won't be my last post, but this is the end of my Morocco chapter for now. Thanks to everyone who kept up with my posts while I was away, and I hope to share more memories and travel stories in the future!
